The battle between the Indiana Fever’s No. 1 overall pick and the best first-year post player from the Chicago Sky has continued from both stars’ respective college careers at Iowa and LSU. Former USA women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe named a favorite in the WNBA’s top rookie race between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, two of the league’s premiere stars. Rapinoe projects Clark, who leads the WNBA in assists, will win the league’s rookie of the year. Reese set a new record for consecutive double-doubles this summer.
“I have Caitlin,” Rapinoe declared. “She’s at the top of every category. Come on, don’t burn her. Assists, turnovers, points (the entire crowd chuckles). Don’t burn her, she’s okay. Angel is enjoying a fantastic season. Breaking the double-doubles, obviously.
If there is still a competition between Reese and Clark, it was evident in Team WNBA’s 117-109 victory over Team USA last month, which was the high point of the WNBA All-Star Weekend that included incredible performances from the top two rookies in the league. The two loved playing together and defeated a lineup full of celebrities, including Aja Wilson, the front-runner for the WNBA MVP award. Reese received one of Clark’s ten assists for the game on a no-look feed that sparked applause from the fans.
It’s so cool, I know when she gets the ball I’m running looking for the ball because I know she’s gonna throw it,” Reese said, via Yahoo Sports. “So, she’s been great to play with. I mean, the future — we’re going to be playing with each other a lot. Hopefully, in 4 years we’ll be Olympians together.” Every time Reese and Clark face-off with one another, it results in a ratings bonanza. Earlier this summer, Clark backhanded the national discourse, saying she’s had enough of the supposed animosity narrative between the two.
Before a game against Reese, Clark told a reporter, “I’m pretty sure the only people that view this as a rivalry is all of you.” “Like, to us it’s just a game of basketball.” Reese recently expressed similar opinions, arguing that the rivalry between the two players is unreal and that their ferocity is only the result of rivalry.
I believe that individuals are unaware that it is not personal. stated Reese. “People just take it like we despise one other, in my opinion. Caitlin Clark and I are not at odds with one another. I want everyone to be aware of that. It’s simply an extremely competitive game. All I want is for people to understand that. There are no friends once I cross those lines. We are not friends. I’m going to speak negatively to you. We may get wild after the game, but I’ll do whatever it takes to stay in your brain the entire time. People may not truly be aware of that.
