‘In the pipeline…’: Paul Warne drops exciting Derby County transfer hint as he eyes another new arrival

Paul Warne drops exciting Derby County transfer hint as meeting planned with potential signing - Derby County News

The manager of Derby County is still trying to add players to his team in preparation for the 2024–25 Championship campaign.

Derby County has confirmed five players so far this season; the Rams are trying to bolster a roster that lost a number of important players to free agency this summer.

Notably, Paul Warne has made an effort to strengthen his options in the park’s center before the new campaign begins by bringing in players like Ben Osborn to Pride Park.

Warne’s options, which included players like Conor Hourihane, Korey Smith, and Louie Sibley the previous season, have entirely changed with the addition of Kenzo Goudmijn, David Ozoh, and the return of former loanee Ebou Adams to the team.

With Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates joining before the 2024–2025 season, striker options have been significantly increased. Nevertheless, Warne is obviously not content with his roster ahead of the new season, as further additions are ‘in the process’.

Paul Warne is scheduled to meet with a prospective new Derby County recruit.

With Warne confirming that he had a scheduled meeting with a transfer target this week, Derby County is getting close to signing its sixth player of the summer.

Warne stated, “I have a Zoom call with a player on Tuesday, but I still can’t have him until he’s with the club,” in an interview with Derbyshire Live.

“There are two, one is operating below the surface but won’t last forever, and another is hopefully in the works.

“An additional one, a loan, is stored in the structure. Although we think we have the players we want to try and get in to help this club, you never know until they’re in the building.

“We have made it clear that we require another keeper and another central center half.

Both there and in the offensive end, we lack strength. We’re almost there, but you’ll have to wait for the better loan offers and the ones you really want.

Prior to the new season, Warne had highlighted the necessity for Derby County to bring in more players, saying they “had a long way to go” in the window.

Prioritizing key positions for Derby County signings this summer is imperative for Paul Warne.

The former Rotherham United manager has learned a lot during the preseason after the Rams’ losses to Chesterfield and Shrewsbury Town.

Preseason naturally places a higher priority on players becoming fitter, but it also signals that Warne’s team will need to add a striker.

In Derby County’s last two outings, they have only managed one goal, which was scored by James Collins, a player who, at 33, is not exactly guaranteed to score goals at this level.

Josh Vickers is the only senior goalkeeper, so it’s evident that a goalkeeper was required before the preseason started. Nevertheless, the last few games have highlighted the need for a goalie who can score goals and has the speed to get past a Championship defense.
