INCREDIBLE: Ba retains Women’s IDC title

Ba retained the 2023 IDC Women’s IDC championship by defeating Labasa 4-1 in the final in Suva. Cema Nasau, a national representative, was the toast of the Ba side, scoring two goals, one of which was a fantastic bicycle kick into the back of the net.

At halftime, both sides were tied 0-0 before the floodgates unleashed in the second half. Narieta Leba scored from the penalty spot, setting the tone for Labasa. Nasau then scored two goals in five minutes, kicking off Ba’s comeback. Elesi Tabunase added to Ba’s lead before skipper Luisa Tamanitoakula clinched the win with a fourth goal.

Nasau received the Golden Ball Award for best player in the tournament. Sofi Diyalowai won the Golden Boot Award for highest scorer in the tournament, with ten goals for Ba.

Mereseini Waqali, Ba’s goalkeeper, received the Golden Glove Award. Coach Charlene Lockington was proud of her players’ unwavering determination throughout the event.

“We know Labasa because they are worthy opponents, but they always seem to falter in the second half. So it was our strength, and we also had a terrific bench; this was one of the best teams to come.

We had a fantastic team on the field and an outstanding 11 on the bench.” The Women in Black also got the Fair Play Award for not picking up a single card throughout the tournament.
