Inter Milan admit interest in £35m ‘quality player’ Rangers may have got for £1m

Rangers could have had Albert Gudmundsson

Two years later, Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson has successfully transitioned from the Eredivisie to Serie B to Serie A, increasing his price tag from £1 million to £35 million. This marks the start of a summer of speculation for him.

“He is a quality player who Inter like,” confesses Piero Ausilio, the Nazzuri’s sporting director, in an Instagram Live interview. “As well as other teams.”

Ausilio does concede that Inter are well-stocked in the attacking department, with Porto free agent Mehdi Taremi joining Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. However, with Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez on the way, there is undoubtedly place for a player like Gudmundsson.

Currently valued at £35 million

Always a highly cerebral and dynamic performer, the Iceland international has added a vicious streak to his game in Italy. This season’s 14 Serie A goals (16 in all competitions) are nearly equal to Gudmundsson’s total from four years at AZ Alkmaar.

Comparisons to Mo Salah, who achieved unprecedented success in Italy with Fiorentna and Roma, are valid.

Genoa’s CEO Andres Blazquez revealed to Tuttomercatoweb that the club received an offer for Albert Gudmundsson three days before the January transfer window closed. Blazquez did not disclose the amount of the offer.

“Fiorentina contacted and informed me that they wanted the Icelander. I warned them not to make any bids because we would not sell him.

“I told Fiorentina, ‘I’ll give you a price so you understand we don’t want to sell him.'” Forty million’. An offer arrived, and it took me three minutes to decline. I thanked them for their offer but rejected.
