Ipswich Town are looking to sign a Premier League free agent soon.

The Daily Mirror (via Football League World) reports that Ipswich Town are interested in signing West Ham defender Ben Johnson this summer.

Johnson, 24, has made 22 appearances across all competitions this season, 14 of which have been in the Premier League.

Ipswich Town want to seek promotion from the Championship, competing with Leicester City, Leeds United, and Southampton for the top spot.

They may consider Johnson as someone to enhance their defensive options next season if they are to cross the line and enter the top flight.

He can play on either wing of defence, making him a valuable addition to their team. The former England youth international has also played top-level football on a regular basis.

Johnson is out of contract in late June and has yet to sign an extension with West Ham, so he will become a free agent as things stand.

The Londoner rose through his current club’s academy ranks, becoming a regular at various young levels before breaking into the first squad.

He has played 109 times for the Hammers and scored two goals.

It remains to be seen whether he will stay at the London Stadium beyond this season due to his uncertain contractual situation.

Johnson is likely to examine his choices and determine what would be the greatest step for his career at this point.

Ipswich Town is aiming for promotion and will play Hull City away this weekend. The Tigers are seventh in the table.
