Ipswich Town learn of £5 million asking price for key target

Zian Flemming, the star of Millwall, is reportedly of interest to Ipswich Town, who are looking to add attacking players for the summer. This information was reported last week.

For the first time since 2002, the Tractor Boys are back in the top division. While they are still enjoying their promotion, preparations are being made behind the scenes to bolster the team in anticipation of their challenging battle to stay in the Premier League come next season.

In just a year, Portman Road went from League One football to the Premier League, which has made it a very alluring proposition for players. In addition, it is expected that the Suffolk-based team would earn £150 million in their debut campaign back in the English Football League’s top division.

Ipswich Town’s increased spending power will enable them to be more aggressive in the transfer market. The South London Press disclosed this week that Kieran McKenna’s group is one among the potential suitors for Millwall standout Flemming. Additionally, according to the newspaper, the Lions are expecting offers for the Dutchman this summer and may be willing to let the 25-year-old go for the appropriate deal.

Reporter Alan Nixon gave an update on the transfer drama, saying that the London team is reportedly holding out for £5 million and will probably take an offer if it matches this price.

Millwall had an arduous season; the team spent most of the year fighting to avoid relegation until Neil Harris was reinstated as head coach. With nine goals and six assists across all competitions, the Dutch forward was the team’s leading scorer and assister at the end. Now, in summer, he might be headed to Ipswich.

Clubs that were promoted to the Premier League in the past have thrown large sums of money towards the goal of surviving. Burnley this season and Fulham in prior seasons are just two instances of teams that gave it their all to avoid relegation but eventually fell short.

Ipswich Town could be relegated the next season, thus the recruitment team will need to be judicious with their spending in order to prevent the team from being overpaid and bloated. Flemming would be a wise addition if the club could not re-sign Omari Hutchinson and Jeremy Sarmiento this summer for just £5 million.
