Ipswich Town are interested in Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison as his contract at Bramall Lane runs down.
Ipswich Town are ‘sure’ of signing Daniel Jebbison, whose Sheffield United contract expires this summer.
Ipswich Town interested in Daniel Jebbison
Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys are now third in the table, trailing Leeds United on goal difference. The season is expected to end dramatically.
Championship Table (As it stands April 28th) | ||||
Team | P | GD | Pts | |
1 | Leicester City (P) | 44 | 47 | 94 |
2 | Leeds United | 45 | 39 | 90 |
3 | Ipswich Town | 44 | 32 | 90 |
However, Ipswich have a game in hand against Coventry City on Tuesday night, and they know that four points will secure their promotion to the Premier League.
The uncertainty regarding which division the squad will play in can be problematic for the recruitment team, who will undoubtedly have two lists of possible recruits when the window opens.
According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, Ipswich are interested in Jebbison regardless of promotion status.
According to the update, the Suffolk side is confident that they will reach an agreement with Jebbison, whose contract at Bramall Lane expires in the coming months.
However, the 20-year-old would not join Ipswich on a free transfer as he is of an age when compensation is required.
Furthermore, the source indicates that a deal between the clubs is unlikely to be reached, implying that a fee would be determined by a tribunal.
Daniel Jebbison’s Career So Far
This appears to be a key step for Jebbison, even at this point in his career.
The England youth international made his Blades debut as a youngster, scoring against Everton and being the youngest player to do it in the Premier League.
Despite making over 30 appearances for Sheffield United in the last three years, he has yet to establish himself as a regular, which is expected given his age. In addition, injuries have hampered Jebbison’s current campaign.
So he’s reached the point where he needs first-team football and to find a club that will allow him to realise his undeniable potential.
Daniel Jebbison may thrive under Kieran McKenna.
On that aspect, McKenna may be the ideal coach for Jebbison, as the youngster possesses all of the raw abilities that the Ipswich manager seeks from a number nine.
Jebbison has a nice physicality to his game because of his height, but he also has tremendous agility, so he is a guy who can run the channels and lead the press, as well as play up top on his own.
Of course, there are aspects of his game that require improvement, most notably his goal return and finishing in front of goal. However, Jebbison is a player with immense potential, and Portman Road might provide the ideal platform for him to demonstrate his abilities.
Ultimately, this is one to monitor ahead of the window opening, and whilst there may be more eye-catching deals done by Ipswich, particularly if they win promotion, this could be a shrewd bit of business by the club for the long-term if they can bring him in.
