IPSWITCH TOWN: If Chris Willock leaves: View

Marcus Harness will likely be leaving Portman Road this summer, and the wide man could be the perfect replacement if Willock departs

It becomes increasingly likely that Chris Willock will play football elsewhere from Loftus Road come next season as the days pass.
Asmir Begovic signed a one-year contract with QPR last summer, but he might be leaving shortly.

Following a difficult start to the year under Gareth Ainsworth, QPR made the decision to install Marti Cifuentes as manager in October 2023. The Spaniard led a survival mission that was enthusiastically completed before the campaign’s conclusion.

One of the main players in the fight against relegation, Willock scored three goals in a row in November and December to help his team collect crucial points. In February, he scored the game-winning goal against Rotherham United.

Given that he contributed to a revitalized R’s team that had plenty of attacking vigor toward the end of the year, Cifuentes will sorely miss his inventiveness coming into the next campaign.

In the months that he has been leading the team, the Spaniard has shown his affection for Willock, and his manager has not overlooked the attacker’s impact on the outcome of the team.

“He knows how much we rate him, and I think he knows how much we like him,” Cifuentes stated in April, as reported by London News Online.

But I’m not sure what will occur in the future. Undoubtedly, he demonstrated tonight his love for this club and his desire to play here and support us.”

Marcus Harness uses his Premier League promotion to shape Ipswich Town’s future.

Willock’s departure from the team will provide room for other heroes to emerge at Loftus Road, and a player similar to Harness would probably be just as effective in the R’s setup.

Over his career, the former Portsmouth player has established himself as a formidable opponent for EFL defenders, causing all kinds of havoc in the last third with his pace down either wing.

During Ipswich’s previous season of promotion, the 28-year-old didn’t play as much as he would have wanted; only seven of his 34 appearances came at the beginning of Championship games.

Despite his significant effect as a substitute, which included scoring the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Plymouth Argyle and a brace that earned a draw against Birmingham City, the wide player would have preferred to see more action after helping his team advance from League One in the previous season.

Having said that, it appears doubtful that Harness will play a significant role in the Tractor Boys’ championship run the next season, and it would be better for everyone if they relocated from Portman Road in the summer.

The former Burton Albion player’s Suffolk contract is soon to expire, and the East Anglian team may try to take advantage of him while they can, or even let him go for nothing in order to make room in their roster for players with more elite experience.

With his energy and pace in the wide areas making him a threat for defenses to cope with and his delivery into the penalty area creating plenty of opportunities for his teammates, Harness has demonstrated what he can accomplish when given opportunities in the first team at any of his previous clubs.

Given that Rangers will need attacking players to join the Cifuentes revolution at Loftus Road and that a lot is expected of him following his early performances in English football, his current circumstances could work to Rangers’ advantage during the summer.
