SOUTHEND Legendary United player Adam Barrett is adamant that the Shrimpers must be spared.
Barrett watched the Blues as a child and went on to play 354 games for his home team.
Furthermore, the 44-year-old is eager for the group to finish its takeover as quickly as feasible.
Barrett expressed how crucial it is for a community like Southend to have a flourishing and prosperous club.
It has always been very significant to our area and is a tremendously popular component of the community.
It’s not nice at all to see a fantastic club with such a long history and tradition going through the problems it has.
“It’s hard to see, and all I can hope is that ownership can be resolved so the club can push to return to the league; it’s too big to be in this position right now.”
The consortium’s legal representatives are currently negotiating the final details of the agreement that would allow the businesspeople to formally take over the club.
And even though the consortium does not control Blues, Barrett has complimented them for continuing the franchise.
Barrett remarked, “They’re obviously very passionate guys that want to do well and see the club do well too.”
They’re in it because they care, based on their level of dedication and endurance thus far.
That’s a huge plus and a true positive.
“I just hope that everything works out for them because of all the work they’ve put into it.
“I hope the deal closes, this can all be forgotten, and the club can begin to move forward. If they have complete control, I have no doubt that they will.”
Barrett is currently Millwall’s assistant head coach.
However, the former center back still has a deep affection for Blues.
“Some of the best times of my career were at the club and some of the best memories of football are too,” Barrett stated.
“As a child, I used to watch from the North Bank terraces and was extremely proud to play for the club.
“We achieved a lot of success and truly brought the club back to prominence, but for a town like Southend, it is crucial that the club is succeeding.
“I check for it every week as the first result because it’s too huge to be where it is.
“The fan base is great, and they support the team nationwide in an amazing way.
It’s been a protracted and agonizing journey for numerous individuals.
People’s lives and livelihoods are at stake.
“It’s their club and they pay their hard warned money to go and support so I really hope this can be sorted out for everyone.”
