Valentin Barco joined Brighton in January following a high-profile exit from Boca Juniors, but he struggled to break into the Premier League team. Brighton aimed for him to grow as a player in Spain, so he moved to Sevilla to gain European first-team experience.
However, things haven’t gone as hoped. According to *Estadio Deportivo*, Barco is facing an “extremely difficult situation” at Sevilla. He has stayed on the bench for three of the last four La Liga matches, totaling just 277 minutes of playing time this season. Although he made a promising debut, the outlet reports that he has since “fallen out” of manager Garcia Pimenta’s plans. Barco has been tested at both left-back and left-wing positions, but his performance has not won over Pimenta, who has opted to use other players more frequently.
Despite missed chances, Barco may have further opportunities soon, but he will need to make an impact to avoid losing his place. If his loan continues to disappoint, it could raise concerns about his development and future, while also adding to the list of cases where Sevilla loans haven’t benefited young players like Brighton had hoped.
