James Forrest acknowledges that in January, he COULD have quit Celtic.Under Brendan Rodgers, the long-serving winger found himself on the outskirts, and for some seeing from the outside, moving away—even on loan—might have been the best course of action. However, the wide player immediately turned his attention to re-entering the manager’s plans after learning that he would be sticking with the only team he has ever known until the end of the season. “There were some things in January, but nothing substantial,” he said to Sky Sports. “I’ve always felt that I could make a difference here. I wanted to keep pushing the team as soon as the window closed and I realised I was here.

“Many players don’t come to play here. There are a lot of players and nobody skips training, so the changing room is great. Everyone puts in a lot of effort, which motivates the lads who are just getting started and lets them know that there are players who will push them to join the team even if they don’t have a great game or perform well.”

He carried it out elegantly. Forrest has seen a timely springtime comeback. With a victory over rivals Rangers on Saturday, the Hoops can put one hand on the Premiership trophy. His double at Dundee helped keep the team’s title tilt on track. And considering his recent performance, Forrest should have a larger part.

“I have always had confidence in myself but January and February not being in the squad was tough,” he said. “However, during the course of a football player’s career, they experience many different moments and difficult phases.

“I’m just glad that I was able to continue putting in a lot of effort. I’ve been back in the team since March, logging some minutes, and the past few weeks have been even better. I’ve started to make an effect in the last few weeks, which has been wonderful.
