In a recent update, manager Chris Davies told BirminghamLive: “Every morning, he’s the first player in. He’s in the gym, working incredibly hard on his rehab. He’s one of those players you just want to see back to full fitness and thriving because of his brilliant attitude.
“I haven’t seen much of him as a player yet since he hasn’t been training with us, but even having him involved in the warm-up is a big step. Hopefully, day by day, week by week, he’ll continue to grow stronger and fully recover.”
Getting Chang back would be a boost for both him and Birmingham City. He isn’t in their 25-man squad though at the moment so won’t be able to feature until January.
However, his immediate focus will just be on getting back up to speed after so long out of action
Alfie Chang has spent his entire career with Birmingham City, progressing through their academy ranks. The Worcestershire-born midfielder became a regular at various youth levels before signing his first professional contract in 2021.
Chang has made 20 senior appearances for the club but hasn’t played since August last year due to injury. Manager Chris Davies plans to take a cautious approach, gradually reintroducing him to the team.
Meanwhile, Birmingham City are enjoying an impressive start to the season. Currently 2nd in the league behind Wrexham with a game in hand, they’re pushing for an immediate return to the Championship. After a 2-0 win away at Rotherham United, the Blues will aim to maintain their momentum at home against Peterborough United this weekend.
