JUST NOW: Adrian Wilson ‘threatened to kill himself’ after dispute with his wife

Adrian Wilson, a former NFL safety who is now an executive, allegedly told Arizona police that he threatened suicide after a fight with his wife about rumors that he was having an affair.

Wilson’s family members said that the former Arizona Cardinals player lost control of his emotions at their Scottsdale home at around five in the morning on June 1, according to an incident record from the Scottsdale Police Department that TMZ was able to get this week.

Wilson’s wife, Alicia, reportedly told police that after she learned he was dating someone else, things went out of control. She claimed to have organized and placed all of the necessary legal separation documents at the guest house the five-time Pro Bowler was living in.

The officers’ report then states that Wilson, 44, approached Alicia in the bedroom when he discovered the papers, and Wilson “just lost it from there,” according to Alicia.

She said that among other things that broke while in Wilson’s custody were a light and an incense holder. She claimed that Wilson then turned violent, and at one time he is supposed to have choked his wife after touching her with both hands.

Additionally, according to Alicia’s account to the police, Wilson eventually obtained a weapon from a safe, which made her fear him. She claimed that when she brought up their kids’ presence in the home, her husband’s response was, “F*** those kids.”

According to the police, Alicia expressed to them her inability to escape Wilson by leaving the house.

The report claims that Adrian once left the house and called a number of his close friends and family members to inform them of his intention to commit himself.

He went back inside the house a short while later, though, and police officers were able to persuade him to come out. After being taken into arrest, he eventually admitted to the police that he had taken a gun out of a safe but had quickly left the house. After finding breakup papers in Alicia’s bedroom, Adrian also admitted to smashing items there.\

According to a police report, Wilson said ‘f*** them kids’ while holding a gun in front of his wife

After the incident, Wilson told local authorities in Scottsdale that he recently felt depressed

‘My mind just got super screwy at that point,’ police officers reported of what Wilson told them. ‘So I proceeded to leave the house.’

Authorities said that Wilson admitted to telling his mother of his ploy to kill himself while out of the home. The former football player also told police officers that he recently felt depressed after being far away from his family while working on the Carolina Panthers as the team’s Vice President of Player Personnel.

Wilson was ultimately taken into custody and charged with assault, property damage and disorderly conduct. In the weeks following his arrest, the Panthers and Wilson parted ways although it’s unclear if the incident played a role in his departure.

Wilson starred for the Cardinals for over a decade from 2001 to 2012. In 2015, after retiring, he joined the team’s front office. He left Arizona for the Panthers in 2023.
