Former defender Connor Hall was acquired by Port Vale for an undisclosed sum from League Two opponents Colchester United.
The 31-year-old is Darren Moore’s sixth summer addition to bolster his team in preparation for the 2024–2025 League Two season.
Hall’s current professional trajectory
In 2011, Hall started his career in the Isthmian League with Bury Town, where he played for four years, making 74 games. He briefly played for St Neots Town in 2015 before making his way back to Bury Town for a second stint with the team.
The defender played two seasons for Biggleswade Town after signing with the team in 2016. Hall relocated to Brackley Town, who were then in the National League North, prior to the 2018–19 season, and he went on to play 38 games for the team.
His ascent through the football ranks continued in 2019 when he joined with Harrogate Town.
In the 2019–2020 season, Hall was a member of the Harrogate team that was promoted to League Two.
After that, the 32-year-old played with Harrogate for an additional 1.5 seasons, making 105 appearances and scoring five goals in that period.
He was traded to Port Vale in January 2022, where he assisted the team in winning promotion from League Two via the play-offs.
He spent a season and a half with Colchester United after being sold to the club in January of the following year for an undisclosed sum.
He currently returns to Port Vale for his second stint with the team ahead of the 2024–2025 League Two season.
What can Hall offer Port Vale?
Hall will provide the Port Vale side with a plethora of experience. 146 of the 6’4″ defender’s 259 career appearances have been at League Two level.
In addition, the Englishman has received two career promotions: the first came from Harrogate Town during the 2021–2022 season, and the second from The Valiants.
A side that is considering promotion needs this experience since players who have been promoted before understand what it takes to compete.
Hall, who has accomplished this twice, will be a crucial component in helping Port Vale undertake a comeback campaign to regain their place in League One.
Hall is physically present in the back line as well. Due to the long ball strategy used by many teams in League Two, the defender’s ability to compete aerially at 6’4″ will be an asset.
For Port Vale, being able to play midfield when necessary and be really at ease with the ball will be a great benefit.
Given the various of styles used by teams nowadays, it is essential for a League Two football player to possess this blend.
