Catie Griggs, the first woman to hold this role in the history of the team, has been selected by the Baltimore Orioles as their president of business operations.
The position was filled by Elevate Talent, which was operating under the new ownership of the Orioles, which was overseen by majority owner David Rubenstein.
“Catie is the perfect candidate to lead our business operations in Baltimore going forward because of her demonstrated success, broad business background, and unwavering commitment to quality,” Rubenstein said.
After three seasons with the Seattle Mariners, where she worked in a similar role supervising business operations, Griggs now plays for the Orioles. She managed major renovations to the long-standing home stadium of the Mariners, T-Mobile Park, throughout her tenure, with an emphasis on operations, technology, and improving the fan experience.
One noteworthy accomplishment during her tenure at T-Mobile Park was the venue’s first-ever staging of the NHL Winter Classic in January 2024 and the MLB All-Star Game in July 2023.
“I am overjoyed to be a part of the Orioles organization. Griggs said, “It’s an enormous honor to support this great club, the city of Baltimore, and our loyal supporters.
Among her duties will be managing the initiatives to revitalize Oriole Park at Camden Yards. One of the key venues in the evolution of contemporary ballparks in the United States is Camden Yards. The Baltimore Stadium Authority and the Orioles attempted to extend their lease after Wes Moore, the newly elected governor of Maryland, took office in January.
The team’s stay at Camden Yards for the next 15 years was successfully secured with a $600 million taxpayer-funded renovation plan for the ballpark and surrounding area to create a “ballpark village,” akin to The Battery in Atlanta and other MLB cities, signed in December, prior to the ownership change.
Along with her experience in Atlanta, Griggs will provide perspectives from her tenure at Turner Broadcasting and her time serving as Atlanta United’s chief business officer from 2017 to 2021, during which she oversaw the team’s 2018 MLS Cup success.
Rubenstein’s continued influence over the Orioles since taking over the team just before the season began is highlighted by Griggs’ hiring. Leading private equity player Rubenstein purchased a 40% share in the squad in January, with the option to purchase the remaining share upon the death of the team’s original owner, Peter Angelos, in March.
The Orioles are now ranked 18th in Sportico’s MLB team values, with a worth of $1.73 billion, up 8% from the previous year.
