JUST NOW: Toronto Blue Jays Send a Hitter to Seattle Mariners

BREAKING: Seattle Mariners Acquire Veteran First Baseman From Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays have traded designated hitter Justin Turner to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for prospect RJ Schreck, just ahead of tomorrow’s MLB Trade Deadline.

Turner was in his first season with the Blue Jays after signing a $13 million, one-year deal this offseason to fill the gap left by Brandon Belt’s departure. At 39, Turner has had moments of strong performance despite a rough start to the season due to illness. Before joining the Blue Jays, Turner spent a significant part of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, including a 2020 World Series win.

In 2024 with the Blue Jays, Turner batted .254 with 76 hits, six home runs, 31 RBIs, and 37 runs scored in 89 games. Over his career, he has a batting average of .286 with 1,538 hits, 193 home runs, 790 RBIs, and 775 runs scored in 1,629 games.

Turner’s move to Seattle marks his sixth MLB team, having previously played for the Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and the Toronto Blue Jays.

RJ Schreck, 24, has played this season with the Everett AquaSox in the Northwest League and the Arkansas Travelers in the Texas League, both minor league affiliates of the Seattle Mariners.

In 78 games for Everett, Schreck batted .261 with 72 hits, 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and 38 runs scored. His current numbers for Arkansas will improve, but his combined stats between both teams make this a promising acquisition as the Blue Jays look to strengthen their future roster.
