Nevertheless, there are times when we look back to the past and appreciate the brilliant individuals who came before them, and few Celtic players of recent years will be held in the same regard as Kieran Tierney.
Coming through the academy at seven years old before rising to prominence in Glasgow’s east end, the Scotland international made 170 appearances for his boyhood club in all competitions, registering eight goals and 37 assists [Transfermarkt].
In 2019, the time came for Tierney to leave for Premier League giants Arsenal for £25 million, which is still the joint-largest Celtic sale alongside Jota’s departure to Al-Ittihad last summer.
Of course, Tierney moved to Real Sociedad last summer on loan, and he has since featured 21 in the Basque Region, laying on two assists, per the same outlet.
Although there were rumours that an emotional return to Parkhead could’ve been on the cards for Tierney in 2023, nothing materialised, though Celtic fans have long dreamt of a day where this notion becomes a reality.
Kieran Tierney answers whether he will ever return to Celtic
Tierney is still widely heralded in these parts; however, there has never been a sense of certainty over whether he would consider a return to his boyhood club.
Earlier today, live on talkSPORT, Jim White asked the question directly to the Douglas-born man, as he stated during a lengthy conversation about his career: “Do you ever see a time that you’ll pull on the shirt again and be back at Celtic?”
In response, Tierney refused to rule out the possibility, replying: “Who knows? You never know in football; it’s a connection that I’ll always have, somewhere I imagine I’ll always be linked with if I’m to move from any club, so you never know.”
It isn’t a secret that Tierney still holds the club close to his heart, though it is encouraging to hear that he wouldn’t rule out the scenario of coming back to Glasgow’s east end later in his career.
