Knights star set to be victim of cap crunch; Dogs’ deal for Rooster finalised: Transfer Whispers

Knights prop Daniel Saifiti has accepted that this may be his final season playing for Newcastle. The Newcastle Herald reports that although the 28-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of 2026, he has been instructed to look into other options for the upcoming season and beyond. The Knights hope to relieve some of the pressure on their pay cap by letting Saifiti and his $750,000-per-year contract expire.

If no other teams show interest in him, he can finish out his contract with the Knights, but that is doubtful given the dearth of quality props available. The Knights will probably need to pay a portion of Saifiti’s contract in order to allow him to play elsewhere. Saifiti told the Newcastle Herald, “I believe Stevie Wonder could see that our salary cap is not in the best position.” But I have to accept that they have been upfront and honest. “I could stay if I really wanted to dig in and stay put.

If that’s the path they wish to go, then I love this club too much. I’ll act in my family’s and my own best interests, but I also have this club’s interests in mind. “My brother Jacob and I have always had a great relationship with the club. However, I also believe that we have benefited them. “As a life member of the Newcastle Knights, I will always be a part of this team, but when I’m here, I’m here, and when I’m not, I’m not.”My family is my top priority. Saifiti has seven times represented New South Wales, earning himself a lucrative contract extension in 2021. Alongside his brother Jacob, he made his Knights debut in 2016 and has since participated in 173 games for the team.
