Josateki Kobanalagi, the younger brother of Fijian Drua fullback Ilaisa Droasese, attributes his own pursuit of a Bachelor of Sports Education and Exercise Science degree to his brother’s ardor for the game.
Growing up, Kobanalagi claims he witnessed Droasese’s dedication and decided he wanted to pursue the same career. The main reason his interest in rugby grew, he says, was because of his brother. “Somethings that contributed to building my interest in the sport of rugby were this, my brother, who plays currently for the Fijian Drua, and the fact that I’ve been a big fan of watching rugby league since I was a small child.”
At the Kaiviti Silktails club in Lautoka, Kobanalagi is currently employed as an Interim Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. One day, he wants to help more young rugby players in Fiji by offering them better training facilities, access to cutting-edge sports science, and all-encompassing development programs.
The programmers’ focus on collaboration and leadership has also improved my strategic thinking and field communication abilities. I want to work in the sports industry in whatever capacity is assigned to me because I want to explore every avenue and know where to further my education. The native of Tuva Nadroga counsels anyone considering playing rugby to devote themselves wholeheartedly to the process.
