In the latest volley of punditry banter on Sky Sports, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton couldn’t resist a dig at Kris Boyd, former Rangers player and current pundit, following Boyd’s critique of Celtic’s Reo Hatate for an alleged dive in their recent 3-0 victory against St Mirren. The comment came before Rangers’ own downturn against Ross County, adding another layer to the comments

Boyd, who overtly wears his Rangers allegiance on his sleeve, pointed out a moment from the match, remarking, “We didn’t see Hatate getting a sore one in the first half as well, when he fell over.” This accusation of diving is particularly rich, coming a week after a controversial penalty won by Rangers’ Fabio Silva in the Glasgow derby, which many viewed as a clear dive.

Sutton, known for his sharp tongue and readiness to stir the pot, responded to Boyd’s comments on-air with Sky Sports. Acknowledging Hatate’s theatrics, Sutton agreed, “He did go down too easy yeah, he did dive.” But he couldn’t leave it there without referencing Silva’s recent simulation. “It’s catching isn’t it, I don’t know where he got it from…” he quipped, with a sly nod to the Rangers striker’s actions the previous week.

Sutton was brought in by Sky Sports at the beginning of the season because Kris Boyd was only offering one opinion on Scottish football and that was from an Ibrox perspecitve. After Rangers 3-3 win (moral) against Celtic last week there were complaints about Sutton being biased. It holds as much weight as Kris Boyd worrying about a Celtic player going to ground.

Hatate picked himself up after his fall at Celtic Park and scored a belter of an opening goal to put the bhoys on their way to a 3-0 victory, so all’s well that ends well.
