Villa open Champions League account with thumping 3-0 win

Tuesday night’s Champions League opener for Emery and the Villans was incredible, as the Premier League team destroyed Young Boys in Switzerland.

Their first match back in Europe’s most prestigious competition since the 1980s ended in a decisive and comfortable 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Youri Tielemans, Jacob Ramsey, and new summer addition Amadou Onana.

After their crushing victory, Emery gave a speech to TNT Sports in which he paid tribute to the late 63-year-old striker Gary Shaw, a former player for Aston Villa. “This victory is for Gary Shaw,” Emery declared following Villa’s 3-0 triumph over Young Boys. We proceeded in the Champions League in the same manner that they did forty-two years prior. We would like to thank Gary Shaw and his family for this victory.

It was difficult. Our experiences last year [in the Europa Conference League] show that. We focused very well for 90 minutes to be consistent. We were adapting on the pitch. We always respected them.

“We have to create a new way. What we created in the Conference League last season was fantastic.

Now, attention turns to Villa’s Midlands derby clash against Wolves in the Premier League this afternoon, and it will be fascinating to see how Emery sets up his team at home. Domestically, they’ve started the new campaign in equally promising fashion to their European adventures – winning three out of their opening four league games of the season so far.

In comparison, Wolves, led by Gary O’Neil, have lost to teams like Chelsea and have not won a single game. Although we’ve made our predictions on Villa’s lineup versus Wolves today, Bardell has his own opinion.

Bardell suggests Emery could drop Aston Villa star Lucas Digne

The Sky reporter, who was speaking to Villa News, hinted that Lucas Digne might not start this afternoon in favor of summer addition Ian Maatsen.

The defender, who earns £120,000 a week, has started every one of their four league games thus far and contributed 88 minutes to their victory over Young Boys. Although Digne has contributed two assists in that period as well, Bardell speculates that Villa may bench Digne for today’s match against Wolves.

“I think if we didn’t have this cup game on Tuesday, I think there is a reasonable chance [Jhon] Duran may have started against Wolves,” stated Bardell.

In the Premier League, there will be instances where he starts games and instances where Ollie Watkins rotates in. Perhaps Maatsen will be our guest on Saturday rather than Lucas Digne. Apart than that, I don’t see many changes. Since we played on Tuesday, I believe there has been enough time to prepare for this match.
