If the rumours are true, Manchester City might be looking to add some new players this summer.
Last month, City emerged victorious in the Premier League for the fourth straight year and the sixth time under Pep Guardiola’s leadership. However, after losing out on the FA Cup, Champions League, and Carabao Cup, the team was unable to win any other significant trophies.
City will strive to win significant titles both domestically and in Europe again the following season. Plans for the squad’s appearance when City plays Manchester United in the Community Shield and the Premier League season begins in August will already be in place for Guardiola and company.
A few months remain until the new campaign begins, but MEN Sport has already looked at what Guardiola’s ideal 25-man roster may entail in the event that any of the most recent transfers materialize.
Goalies: Carson, Ortega, and Eduardo
A good deal of conjecture has already been observed in the goalkeeping area. Ederson has been mentioned as perhaps leaving the Etihad Stadium, with the Saudi Pro League being one possible destination.
Ideally, City would like to retain the Brazilian for the upcoming campaign. Particularly during the previous season, Stefan Ortega demonstrated his competence as a deputy when called upon.
Scott Carson is still employed by the team, and in recent years, his expertise has been quite helpful in the locker room. Ideally, Guardiola would prefer to make few, if any, changes to the goalkeeping staff this summer.
Walker, Akanji, Dias, Stones, Gvardiol, Lewis, and Gomez are the defenders.
Despite having an abundance of defenders at their disposal, City will still need to make some choices. Rico Lewis is still a player for the present and the future, but Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, John Stones, and Josko Gvardiol all appear destined to return to the forefront next season.
Sergio Gomez and Joao Cancelo’s futures are still up in the air, though. Cancelo played the entire season on loan at Barcelona, but Gomez’s possible return to Spain this summer raises the possibility that Cancelo will leave permanently.
De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva, Guimaraes, Kovacic, Wirtz, Nunes, Bobb, and Phillips are midfielders.
Although City has a plethora of alternatives in the midfield, it is not enough to quell rumors of possible acquisitions. Bruno Guimaraes, a standout for Newcastle, and Florian Wirtz, a playmaker for Bayer Leverkusen, have been linked to summer moves to the Etihad.
In contrast to Wirtz, there have been many more rumors connecting Guimaraes to a move to City. Real Madrid has also been connected to the Leverkusen player, who is expected to stay with the Bundesliga team till at least 2025.
Guimaraes is still a goal for City this summer, though, if rumors are to be believed. The Brazilian would be a great addition to Guardiola’s team for the upcoming campaign if he were to transfer to the Etihad.
