The Hoops could have an opportunity to sign the talented young defender this summer.
Celtic failed to finish third and advance to the Europa League, finishing bottom of their Champions League group and finishing the season with just one victory in Europe.
They may aspire for more success in those areas the next season. In August, they were also eliminated from the League Cup by Kilmarnock, which allowed Rangers to go on and win the competition.
The Hoops plan to get a new left-back this summer, and they may finally be able to cash in on Alexandro Bernabei by making a late move to recruit a Scottish defender.
Potential interest from Celtic in the Scottish dynamo
If left-back Josh Doig of Sassuolo becomes available, Football Scotland has reported that Celtic and Rangers could be interested in a deal to capture him this summer.
According to the report, both clubs may be looking to add a new number three, and the Scottish full-back would be a great fit for them given that his team was recently demoted to Serie B.
In response to interest from the Gers, Doig completed a £5 million move from Hellas Verona to Sassuolo. However, according to Football Scotland, the 22-year-old may like to get out of the Italian team as soon as possible rather than play in the second division the next season.

As you can see in the table above, Celtic struggled to keep clean sheets with him in the team and his defensive statistics provide an insight into why that may have been the case.
These statistics suggest that attackers found it far too easy to get joy against him, in dribbles and in physical contests, and that may be why the Hoops defence only kept one shutout in his games.
After that, in the first half of this season, Bernabei lost 53 percent of his duels and contributed to the team’s one clean sheet in eight league games, before Rodgers made the decision to loan him out to Brazil for the remainder of the year.
The left-footed dud has made only one appearance and been used as a substitute in six more games across all competitions since moving to Internacional on loan, so it doesn’t appear like he’s going to return to Glasgow to try to turn things around just yet.
