LATEST NEWS: “He is the best” Cameron McGeehan signs for Northampton Town

Norwich City academy product Cameron McGeehan will reunite with the Canaries when they face his new side Northampton Town next weekend.

That means he could feature when City travel to the East Midlands to kick off their Championship preparations on Saturday, July 13, nine years after he left Carrow Road.

McGeehan was part of the under-18s side that Neil Adams led to FA Youth Cup success in 2013, scoring in both legs of the final against Chelsea. He was released without making a first-team appearance, however, going on to play for Luton, Barnsley and Oostende among others.

He told official Northampton channels of his latest move: “I had a really good conversation with the manager. I really liked the vibe I got and it is clear the club is progressing and has progressed well over the last few years.

“The stadium is being developed, there is good support here and the club achieved a really good finishing position last season, and all of that is very positive. This seems a good place to be a professional athlete.

“I had a very good season last season and I was playing in Belgium before that. I have played at a higher level most of my career and it was good to show everyone in England what I could do again, and I was proud of what we did last season.

“My aim now is to climb back up the leagues, and Northampton is a good part of that journey as it is a club that is progressing.

“It is good to get signed this early in pre-season. We can get things settled, get up to speed and hopefully be ready to start the season well.

“There are a good set of lads here, they have progressed each season and hopefully as part of the new group coming in we can take that forward again.”
