LATEST NEWS: Pies head to Casey for their Round 11 matchup.

Pies travel to Casey for Round 11 clash

Collingwood will head down to Casey Fields this Sunday for a crucial Round 11 showdown with the Demons.

This Sunday, Collingwood will travel to Casey Fields for a pivotal Round 11 matchup against the Demons.

The Pies, who are aiming for their first victory since Round Three, will be encouraged by their strong showing last week against the unbeaten Footscray Bulldogs.

They’ll play a Casey team that has also won two games in 2024. The Demons have defeated Port Melbourne and Carlton, as have the Pies.

The Pies will be visiting Casey Fields for the third consecutive year when they play.

When we last met

When the Pies faced Casey in Round 12 of the previous season, they triumphed historically, winning by 14 points on a chilly June day.

The Pies were put on the back foot by Casey, who scored the game’s first five goals and led by more than thirty points in the first quarter.

Moving forward Nathan Kreuger stole the show in the second term after Jedd Longmire gave the team the lead with the first of his two goals.

In the second quarter, Kreuger scored two of his five points for the day, and the Pies rallied to tie the score by halftime.

The game was close throughout a solid second half, but the Pies held onto their lead to win by two goals in the end.

With his abundance of goals, Kreuger stole the show, while Finlay Macrae (20 disposals) and Oscar Steen (19 disposals, 19 hit outs) also played significant roles.

The victory laid the stage for an incredible second half of the season and was crucial in the Pies’ push for the 2023 championship.

Team updates

Six players have changed for the Pies since their match against Footscray last week, including some key additions.

Josh Eyre, an SSP selection, will play in his first game of 2024 after recovering from a hamstring injury, while mid-season recruit Iliro Smit, who joined the Pies last week, will make his Club debut.

After missing three weeks due to a concussion, Reef McInnes also rejoins the team, along with Wil Parker, Ash Johnson, and Yu Yu Ashwin.

Thus far this year

Even though the Pies haven’t won in over two months, they have shown a lot of promise in their last few games despite going through a lot of roster movement every week.

The previous week, when the Pies played the Bulldogs, they faced a club that had twice as many players on the AFL roster. Ed Allan and Nathan Kreuger led the Pies to an outstanding first half.

In a youthful front line that lost Jack Hutchinson to West Coast via the mid-season draft, Kruger’s presence has been essential.

Over the previous two weeks, Patrick Farrant, an exceptionally talented attacker, has demonstrated his level of expertise by consistently hitting the scoreboard and flying high.

As he has demonstrated his strength throughout the game, Ryan Sparkes has been a force in the midfield, while co-captains Campbell Lane and Sam Glover are among the team’s best players on a regular basis. This week’s opportunity for reward comes against the 18th-place Demons, as the team aims to secure its third victory of 2024.

How am I going to watch?

Both the Official AFL Live app and AFL.com.au offer live streaming for the game.

Free admission to Casey Fields is offered until the VFLW game’s halftime, which starts at 11:05 a.m. Adult tickets are $10 after the half.
