Brazilian left-back Jefte is scheduled for an Ibrox physical, and Rangers are getting close to making their first summer acquisition, as The Scottish Sun has reported on social media.
The news broke on X [22 May] that a contract had been reached for the 21-year-old, who Philippe Clement attempted to sign from Fluminense in January, and that a scheduled medical examination had been scheduled.
He has scored three goals in 33 games while on loan in Cyprus with previous Champions League team APOEL this season.
Numerous more signings could quickly follow Jefte out the door.
Rangers are reportedly in the process of acquiring eight new players in order to compete in the Scottish Premiership next season. The team is presently getting ready for its first Old Firm Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park this Saturday since 2002.
The first Rangers name to come through the door will be Jefte.
Given that a significant player churn is anticipated on Glasgow’s blue side this summer, Rangers’ early completion of business is reassuring.
Jefte, a 21-year-old who has experienced his first true season of men’s football in the Cypriot league this term, has been on the Light Blues’ radar for a while. There is lots of room for manoeuvre with him.
In that section of the pitch, reinforcements are needed because Borna Barisic is expected to join Trabzonspor, and the team is reportedly considering “big-money” bids for Ridvan Yilmaz.
When this month came to a conclusion, we could see a number of players lining up at the Ibrox entrance door. Liam Kelly, the Scotland custodian, was apparently in talks to return, and Clement was eager to get Oscar Cortes back after he had suffered an injury while on loan this season.
If the club is to replace some of its experienced charges who will be leaving after this campaign ends, recruits must be brought in swiftly.
