Morgan Whittaker, linked with Rangers and Burnley, feels that remaining at Plymouth despite interest from other clubs was the right choice.
The 23-year-old told the Daily Record (28 September) that he would be open to moving to a higher level if given the chance.
However, he believes he can handle the situation well and has found ways to make it work for him.
“I’ve been in this situation before, so I know how to deal with it, and I’ve found ways that worked for me, which is just focusing on what I can do. The difference from when I was at Swansea is that I knew I would play here. To me, it was a win-win because I love it here and I’m playing regularly, and if I got the chance to move, it would be to a higher level I want to reach. I didn’t see it as a bad situation to be in.”
Morgan Whittaker was beyond Rangers’ price range this summer.
Rangers actively pursued the wide attacker during the summer transfer window, even being prepared to spend significantly to secure his signing.
The Daily Record reported on 19 July that a £7 million bid was made for the 23-year-old, but it was rejected.
It was encouraging to see Rangers persist in their pursuit as they planned a second bid in hopes of convincing Plymouth.
However, this bid was also rejected, and Rangers appeared to cool their interest after learning the EFL club wanted close to £10 million. [Football Scotland]
It’s uncertain if Rangers will make another bid in the January transfer window, but this seems unlikely, considering they’ve already signed wide attackers over the summer.
Whittaker would have been an interesting signing, but it’s clear he was beyond their budget.
