Lawyer: Premier League & Everton could be sued, he would be ‘raging’

Everton and the Premier League could face legal action from Luton Town and Brentford if either team is relegated this season after their latest points deduction saga.

It had been reported that a third points deduction could be on the way at Goodison Park, but not until next season as the board could not reach a verdict this time around.

Yasin Patel, a sports lawyer at Church Court Chambers, has insisted that if either Brentford or Luton are relegated, they will have grounds to question why the third deduction wasn’t given this season.

Patel told the i [10 April]: “Although there is a potential loss of points, the Premier League don’t think they can deal with it within this time period, so that may apply next year.

“What happens if the case is heard next season and they do get points deducted? Any right person would say those points should’ve been deducted this season. If I were Luton or Brentford, I’d be raging.

“If Luton or Brentford were to get relegated and this case gets brought against Everton next season and they get points deducted, if I were their lawyer, I’d be suing the Premier League and Everton.”

Everton may face legal action from Luton and Brentford

The ongoing drama of this season does not seem like it will slow down any time soon, with the off-field drama dominating the news surrounding Everton and legal action now looking increasingly likely ahead of a busy summer.

With the relegation battle as tense and tight as it has proved to be, it could be entirely decided by off-filed issues after both the Toffees and Nottingham Forest await further news about points deductions, with Luton and Brentford equally in anticipation.

There can be almost no question that the Premier League have handled the situation terribly given the length of time taken to deliver their verdicts, the appeal processes, and now their indecision over whether to award a third deduction.

Should either Brentford or Luton find themselves relegated as a result of that lack of decision, it appears they would have every right to challenge both Everton and the Premier League in court due to the losses they could face.

In other Everton news, Andros Townsend has insisted he would celebrate despite points deductions.
