Patrick Bamford, a striker for Leeds United, said that the atmosphere during the match against Norwich City was the finest he had ever seen at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke’s team defeated Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, Joel Piroe, and Ilia Gruev 4-0 on Thursday, May 16, to secure their spot in the Championship playoff final.
Despite having to watch from the stands due to an injury, Bamford, a former England international, was quick to compliment the home audience for their support from the very beginning.
He stated, “Mate honestly that atmosphere was, it’s hard to remember others before that but that was incredible,” in an interview with the My Mate’s A Footballer podcast on May 17.
With the mood and the knowledge that we would get off to a quick start, I knew as the players left that we would win.
“This is the loudest Elland Road I’ve ever heard.”
Will Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford be a player in the Wembley playoff final?
There was an air of confidence that Leeds United would win as they came out of the Elland Road tunnel on Thursday. There was something subtly certain about the vibe beneath the surface.
Nerves were undoubtedly calmed by Gruev’s early goal and the superb first-half performance, but the Whites dominated the entire game, in large part due to the presence of supporters inside the stadium.
