Linnets away opener ends in defeat - Yahoo Sport

King’s Lynn Town struggled in their first away game of the National League North season, being overpowered and barely resembling the team that showed promise in last week’s opening win against Warrington.

Lynn boss Adam Lakeland admitted, “It was a really bad day – the better team won. No complaints about the result. Incredibly disappointed with the performance of the season. We knew exactly what the game would look like, the threats they have, and we just didn’t stand up to them.”

The Linnets fell behind after 13 minutes, unable to handle the physicality of David Moyo, who slid the ball under keeper Paul Jones. They were fortunate not to fall further behind in the 25th minute when Liam Waldock missed a close chance, sending the ball past Jones’s right post with an open goal in front of him.

A minute later, Josh Hmami nearly equalized in a bizarre fashion by blocking keeper George Willis’s clearance, but the ball spun just wide of the post.

The home side largely bypassed the midfield with long balls into the Lynn area, and the visitors rarely threatened in the first half but started the second half with more intent. Ross Crane’s direct run down the middle was halted by Adam Lund, but Hmami’s subsequent free-kick was easily saved by the keeper.

Lynn’s hopes were dashed 10 minutes after the break when Whitehouse made a strong run down the left and found Waldock, who struck the ball into the top right corner from 12 yards.

An unmarked Bill Fewster added a third goal after a long throw into the box, effectively sealing the game for the hosts.

In added time, Lynn debutant Tim Wilson managed to turn and shoot, forcing Willis into only his second save of the game.
