Luton Town: European team nearing a deal to sign a Wolves target- Romano

Torino have opened talks to sign Luton Town centre-back Teden Mengi amid links to Wolves

As per Fabrizio Romano’s assessment, the Serie A club is on the verge of achieving a significant personal achievement. One of the Hatters’ most important center backs has drawn a lot of attention throughout the summer transfer season; Wolves and Sheffield United’s Anel Ahmedhodzic were most recently mentioned as potential targets. Mengi, who had some success last season, has also been linked to transfers to Lens and Nice this summer. At one point, it almost appeared as though Mengi may move to France.

The former Manchester United player will stay at Kenilworth Road for at least the first half of the season, though, since no one has been able to come to a deal with the Hatters thus far. If they are unable to do so before the deadline. Given Luton’s dismal start to the 2024–25 season and the uncertainty surrounding their immediate elevation to the Premier League, several of their great players may be eager to leave Bedfordshire.

Chiedozie Ogbene has already taken this action by joining Ipswich Town, who have significantly bolstered their roster following their back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League. The addition of Tom Holmes, who was signed in January but didn’t return to Kenilworth Road until the summer after being loaned back to Reading, has helped the Hatters at the center-back position.

After Gabriel Osho left, Mark McGuinness made a big-money transfer to join the team and might be a valuable addition at the back. They might, however, be about to lose a vital central defender, as Mengi may soon be moving to Italy.

Torino in talks to sign Teden Mengi

According to Romano, the Italian team and the Hatters are currently in negotiations as they try to come to an agreement on a Mengi deal. Though they haven’t made headway in their talks with Rob Edwards’ team, they are rumored to be close to reaching a personal terms agreement with the center defender.

Mengi recently switched agencies, therefore they might be prepared to get their client relocated. But as was already noted, a contract between the two teams still needs to be struck, and as of right now, it doesn’t appear like one has. They have till tomorrow’s play-offs to attempt to reach a consensus.

Luton Town should be looking to retain Teden Mengi

Having sold Ogbene, Mengi is a valuable player for Kenilworth Road, therefore it makes sense to hold onto him. The Hatters may have more leeway to hang onto players because they didn’t spend a lot of money while they were competing at the highest level. In the upcoming years, Mengi is still young enough to develop and be useful at Kenilworth Road. He may also play a significant role in leading his club up the Championship table. It would be devastating to lose him, and they won’t have much time to find a replacement.

In light of this, it would be wise to keep him on board.
