The arduous process of getting striker Gold Omotayo back into the King’s Lynn Town fold has been disclosed by Adam Lakeland.
Many people were surprised to see Omotayo sign in the summer, although the Linnets manager had attempted once, unsuccessfully, to place the 30-year-old back on loan during the previous campaign when The Walks lacked firepower.
Another chance arose in the summer, and this time Lakeland finally grabbed his man—but not without a struggle.
“To be honest, I tried to get him last season, when he was available, maybe on loan,” he remarked. Evidently, he attended Kidderminster and continued to play in the National League. But all summer long, I’ve been attempting to get him. It required some time, a great deal of effort, and the chairman’s support, but I was very certain that he would be a great fit for Bart Cybulski and Jonny Margetts.
“Obviously, he is well-known at the club, so fans should be happy to see him return. Hopefully, it also communicates our intention to improve this year, be much more upbeat, and attempt to win a lot more football games for both our players and our supporters. I believe it will benefit our business.
With the poor season behind them—Lynn finished in 18th place—Lakeland now has a whole preseason to assemble a squad capable of contending at the top level. He thinks the recent signings are a declaration of intent.
“I believe that comes naturally to a football team that brings in good players, but we’ve had to bring in quite a few,” Lakeland added.
“I believe we’ve brought in eight so far; we may still be looking for one or two.”
We made it very evident at the beginning of the season that we needed to improve. As a team and perhaps as a football club overall, we underperformed last year, but that is now in the past.
“A lot of effort has been put into the team’s recruitment process in an attempt to strengthen it, and a lot of effort is also being put into the stadium to make improvements there as well. The goal is to hopefully start the season with a new energy and a freshness that everyone in the town can support and get behind.”
At Trafford Park on Tuesday, Cybulski gave Lynn the victory; his first came just minutes after Ryan Miles had given Wroxham the lead early in the second half. After Lynn’s 4-0 victory over Deeping Rangers last weekend, Lakeland was pleased with how the new campaign’s early preparations had gone.
He declared, “I’m pleased with some aspects of our game.” The most satisfying aspect was definitely how dangerous we appeared when we did have opportunities to break the game, which were largely from corners, but I felt like we occasionally looked really dangerous.
“Obviously, we had a good amount of possession, but you have to give them credit,” I said. They made things difficult for us since they were competitive and well-organized. It was another successful night for us since we generated several opportunities but were unable to take advantage of them. The goal is to give the players as much time as possible while still escaping injury, and we succeeded in doing so.
Ben Isaacson, Tommy Hughes, Josh Hmami, Trialist, Ross Crane, Gold Omotayo, Paul Jones, Kyle McFadden, Paulius Falcao, Tom Wilson, Freddie Sass, and others are King’s Lynn Town (first half).
Pat Boyes, Jonny Margetts, Bart Cybulski, Trialist, Ben Isaacson, Josh McCammon, Kian Ronan, Ted Johnson, Greg Taylor, and Cameron Forde Brown made up the second half.
