Man Utd identify Wolves star as ‘top target’
According to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, Manchester United has selected Wolverhampton Wanderers player Joao Gomes as their ‘priority target’ for this summer’s engine room reinforcement.
After a disastrous campaign this season, the Red Devils appear to be looking to bolster their squad in the forthcoming transfer window in order to turn their fortunes around next season.
Erik ten Hag’s main goal is to improve the backline, but he also wants to strengthen the midfield with new players.
A few names have been connected with a move to Old Trafford, including Amadou Onana, Joao Neves, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but Gomes is also apparently on their radar.
According to Jacobs on GiveMeSport, Manchester United are looking to strengthen their squad and have identified Gomes as a ‘priority target’.
Gomes to Manchester United
The Red Devils’ possible arrival in this area depends on the departures of Casemiro, Scott McTominay, and Christian Eriksen.
Jacobs stated:
“I believe Joao Gomes is among Manchester United’s top midfield targets. The first thing to note is that the midfield will be determined, at least in that position, by whether Casemiro leaves. There is strong Saudi interest.
“Christian Eriksen has already stated that he is dissatisfied with his playing time, suggesting that he is also outgoing. We know there will be interest in Scott McTominay, but Manchester United values him. However, he has been connected with a number of clubs in recent seasons.
“So, naturally, Manchester United will look to strengthen that area of midfield if the departures allow them to generate squad space, wage space and funds to do so.”
Wolves may accept a cost of roughly £40 million to transfer the Brazilian, necessitating a significant investment by Manchester United to secure his services.
The South American’s recent performances in the Premier League suggest he could be a valuable addition to the record Premier League champions for the upcoming season.
