Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has received a timely boost with the potential return of Cole Palmer ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday. Palmer, who sustained a knee injury during the recent match against Manchester United, has shown significant improvement. Maresca expressed optimism about Palmer’s availability, stating, “He’s getting better. Hopefully we can have him for the session at least Saturday and then we’ll take a decision.”
In light of injuries to key strikers Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu, Maresca has been exploring alternative attacking options. Jackson is expected to be sidelined until April due to a hamstring injury, while Guiu faces a lengthy absence with an adductor issue. This situation has prompted considerations of deploying players like Christopher Nkunku or even Palmer in advanced roles. Maresca noted, “We have players. Christo has already played as a No9. I had Cole playing as a No9 in the past. We can find some different solutions.”
Palmer’s return would provide a significant boost to Chelsea’s attacking lineup, especially given his impressive form this season, contributing seven goals and five assists in 10 league appearances. As Chelsea prepares to face Arsenal, Maresca remains confident in his squad’s adaptability and resilience amidst the current injury challenges.
