Due to delays in the paperwork, Town manager Kieran McKenna’s new Town contract is now anticipated to be confirmed on Wednesday.
The agreement has reportedly been reached, and it was expected that the 38-year-old’s new terms would be approved this afternoon and made public shortly after. Confirmation has been delayed, nevertheless, by bureaucracy that is thought to be related to the legal issues of the deal.
The Blues manager was at Portman Road today. A picture of him and his kid playing football on the pitch this morning went viral on social media.
For the past ten days, there has been intense conjecture around the Town manager’s future. Brighton was once thought to be his likely destination, but Chelsea and Manchester United have also held discussions with his representatives.
Enzo Maresca of Leicester was always Chelsea’s first objective, as was revealed on Wednesday, even though the Italian is reportedly close to being installed at Stamford Bridge.
After the Red Devils defeated Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, their management situation—Erik ten Hag is still in charge—is expected to remain unresolved for some time as they prepare for an end-of-season review.
Before Chelsea announced their interest in the Blues boss early last week, Brighton is said to have believed he was ready to join them.
We understand the Seagulls have given the Northern Irishman until this Wednesday to commit to moving to Sussex, as there was little progress in the following days and as the issue progressed.
However, McKenna ultimately favoured staying at Portman Road, just as was the case with Crystal Palace when they expressed interest in February—a switch that it has now been revealed was closer than it appeared at the time.
The CEO of ORG, a US investment firm that manages funds on behalf of the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS), the club’s majority owner, Ed Schwartz, flew over from the States to hold talks with CEO Mark Ashton and McKenna, while the speculation about the other clubs continued unabated. The Blues made every effort to hold onto their manager.
Those negotiations were clearly successful, and Town supporters can rest easy knowing that their talisman manager will still be in charge when the team returns to the Premier League in August following a 22-year absence.
Omari Hutchinson, a former Blues loanee, has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract extension with Chelsea that will take effect in the summer of 2026.
The goal of the move, which was widely anticipated, was to either tie the 20-year-old to the West Londoners or obtain the highest price possible should he be sold.
Town is eager to bring the Jamaican international back to Portman Road for the upcoming season, whether it be permanently or on loan. Stuttgart of the Bundesliga is also interested, but they won’t be the only suitors as several of Europe’s top teams have taken note of Hutchinson’s extremely productive time with the Blues.
Elkan Baggott, the central defender, and captain Sam Morsy have been left out of the Egypt and Indonesia squads for their June internationals, respectively.
