Michael Olise required to follow strict Bayern Munich rule if transfer completed

Crystal Palace's Michael Olise

Michael Olise is looking to leave Crystal Palace for Bayern Munich this summer, despite interest from several Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Manchester City. The 22-year-old Frenchman has reportedly chosen Bayern, who have moved ahead of the competition.

Crystal Palace values Olise at over £60 million, a price that deterred Chelsea. Additionally, Chelsea might not have been in the running due to a clause in Olise’s contract that limits his release to Champions League clubs, a competition Chelsea did not qualify for.

If Olise’s move goes through, he will join Harry Kane and Eric Dier in relocating from London to Bavaria in the past year. Beyond the allure of joining a prestigious club, Bayern Munich offers a unique perk related to their sponsorship with German car manufacturer Audi. Players receive a company car from Audi upon arrival but must use it for training, matches, and other club-related events. For example, Harry Kane chose a black Q8 e-tron upon signing with Bayern.

While the provision of a free car is a perk, it comes with strict rules. Players can drive other cars from the Volkswagen group, like Bentleys, Bugattis, and Porsches, but promoting non-affiliated brands can lead to fines. Kingsley Coman was fined £43,500 for driving a McLaren to training, citing a broken wing mirror on his Audi. Similarly, Niklas Sule, Jerome Boateng, and Philippe Coutinho have also been fined for driving non-Audi cars to the training ground.

Olise is likely focusing on his potential big-money transfer rather than the car stipulations. His arrival could be significant for Bayern’s summer overhaul, especially with Vincent Kompany stepping in as the new manager to replace Thomas Tuchel after a rare trophyless season in 2023/24.
