According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Luton Town is one of the teams that has entered the competition for Tottenham Hotspur center-back Japhet Tanganga. The central defender impressed enough at Millwall on his loan there in the second half of the previous season that the Lions attempted to work out a new deal to lure him back to The Den. It appeared that he wouldn’t be able to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a free transfer until the next year after agreeing to a long-term contract back in 2020.
He will be available for release on June 30th, though, giving a number of teams the chance to sign him for free. These teams will be eager to take advantage of this opportunity. Although there won’t be a shortage of possibilities for the 25-year-old in the upcoming weeks, Lions manager Neil Harris will be trying to push a contract through for the player, who is already acclimated to life at The Den and in the English capital.
Millwall set to face stiff competition for Japhet Tanganga
The amount of interest other clubs are showing in the defender makes it possible for the Lions to lose this race, even if they may be heavy favorites after signing him on loan in the past. Journalist Thomas claims that Luton and other second-tier teams are also interested in the player. The defender might be able to play more frequently in this league if he moves from Spurs.
It’s also thought that Serie A teams are interested in signing him; nonetheless, the player will weigh his alternatives carefully before deciding on his future. Despite holding talks to sign the player permanently, the Lions have not yet reached an agreement with him. As a result, other teams have the option to move quickly and extend an offer to the player, should they so choose.
Japhet Tanganga should carefully weigh up his options
If offers from teams in both Italy and England materialize, Tanganga will have to make a difficult decision on his future. Given that he was able to accrue a significant amount of game time and is already accustomed to living in The Den, relocating there permanently would be a wise decision for him.
Given that Luton isn’t too far from London, moving to Kenilworth Road might not be a bad idea for him either. A move there may be beneficial because they have a strong possibility of contending for promotion again the following term, but he would need to get guarantees about his playing time. That being said, it wouldn’t be shocking if he eventually made a return to the Premier League if he can succeed in the Italian top division and get enough of playing time.
