Coventry City are showing promise under Mark Robins as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.
The Sky Blues have made several notable signings this summer as they aim to assemble a squad capable of earning promotion to the Premier League. The first addition was 20-year-old Raphael Rodrigues, who joined from Australia after scoring a few goals for Macarthur FC last season.
Next was the permanent signing of midfielder Luis Binks, who had played on loan for Coventry last season from Bologna. The 22-year-old has now committed to a four-year deal. Another exciting acquisition is Jack Rudoni, one of Huddersfield’s standout players last season, who has joined Coventry for an undisclosed fee, thrilling Sky Blue fans.
Additionally, forward Ephron Mason-Clark, who signed in January but was loaned back to Peterborough United in League One, will feel like a new signing when he starts the season with Coventry.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United seem poised to sign free agent Callum O’Hare following his departure from Coventry City.
Robins has been proactive in securing new signings early, but with the transfer window open until August 30th, there is still ample time for further additions.
Considering this, Football League World examines two potential deals that could be completed before the season starts for Coventry City.
In: Mitchy Ntelo
Coventry have been eyeing forward Mitchy Ntelo for the past month as they aim to bolster their attacking options. The need for reinforcement became more pressing following the departure of popular striker Matty Godden, who joined League One side Charlton Athletic.
Ntelo, a Standard Liege academy graduate, currently plays for Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Bulgaria. Last season, the 23-year-old scored five goals and provided four assists in just 15 appearances, putting him on Coventry’s radar as a potential replacement for Godden.

The reports of Coventry’s interest surfaced in June, when Belgian reporter, Sacha Tavolieri, claimed that the Sky Blues had placed Ntelo on their shortlist. The post on X also suggests that his club are asking for around €1.2 million, which would more than likely work for Coventry.
The Belgian forward is undoubtedly an exciting prospect, and Coventry will be eager to enhance their already strong attacking lineup. While Ntelo may face stiff competition for a starting spot against established players like Ellis Simms and Haji Wright, he could definitely serve as a valuable option off the bench for Mark Robins.
Out: Fabio Tavares
Fabio Tavares has been with Coventry City for the past three and a half years but has only managed 28 appearances in all competitions during that time. The 23-year-old missed most of the 2023/24 season due to injury, but he made the most of his opportunities when they came, scoring a brace against Maidstone United in the FA Cup and providing an assist against Manchester United in the semi-final at Wembley.
Tavares, who can play both as a central forward and on the right wing, has shown significant promise but has struggled with consistency, primarily due to injuries. A loan move this summer could be highly beneficial for his development.
If Mark Robins is considering bringing in a new forward like Mitchy Ntelo, sending Tavares out on loan to a League One club could be a wise decision, giving him the chance to prove his worth and gain valuable playing time.
