Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian has finished his medical clearance to join Chelsea from Palmeiras, setting a new record.
Last month, Chelsea and Palmeiras reached an agreement for Estevao. The Blues will pay an estimated £29.5 million in the beginning, with performance-related add-ons potentially pushing the deal to above £51 million. This would be the highest-ever contract for a teen from South America.
As the Blues truly focus on the South American market, the 17-year-old is poised to become the next South American talent to join the team, joining the likes of Kendry Paez, Angelo Gabriel, Andrey Santos, and Deivid Washington.
Estevao finishes his Chelsea residency
The winger finished his medical on Friday afternoon, according to reports in Brazil that are also supported by Fabrizio Romano. Chelsea executives and the Palmeiras medical team were also present.
Like Paez, Estevao won’t be eligible to sign until the summer of 2025, when he turns eighteen, but the Blues have managed to sign two of the best players in South America.
The club responded swiftly after losing out to Real Madrid for Endrick, and the signing of Estevao for the reported sum is a great show of faith in the Brazilian’s ability.
At barely 16 and eight months old, Estevao made his Palmeiras debut in December of last year, making him the club’s fourth youngest player. He has since made 21 appearances, contributing three assists and three goals.
The winger, known by his nickname “Messinho,” has a lot of growing to do, but his talent and potential are obvious. With so many offensive alternatives at Chelsea, it will be interesting to see what Chelsea has planned for him.
Although Fabrizio Romano said last month that the adolescent is anticipated to join the first team immediately, it is unclear exactly where Estevao slots in at this time, particularly if Chelsea closes a deal to acquire Michael Olise this summer. It would be expected for Chelsea to send Estevao on loan.
