Celtic Predicted XI vs Hearts as Brendan Rodgers makes two changes, first start for new signing
Celtic have no major injury concerns ahead of the game, with key players Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers both available for selection after overcoming recent fitness issues. However, with a crucial Champions League fixture looming midweek, Rodgers may opt to rotate some of his starting lineup to keep players fresh for the European challenge.
Kasper Schmeichel is expected to start in goal, as the veteran shot-stopper has been solid, conceding only one goal so far this season. The defensive pairing of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales is likely to continue, with Greg Taylor maintaining his role on the left side. However, there is speculation that Anthony Ralston could come in for Alistair Johnston at right-back, as Johnston’s minutes are being carefully managed following a long summer and a minor hamstring issue while on international duty with Canada.
In midfield, Celtic’s record signing Arne Engels could be handed his first start. Many may feel it harsh to drop Paulo Bernardo after his strong derby performance against Rangers, but this fixture presents an opportunity to ease Engels into the side ahead of tougher challenges. Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate are expected to continue as the central driving force, having impressed in the early part of the season.
In attack, the trio of Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Nicolas Kuhn remains unchanged. These three have proven their quality and will look to exploit Hearts’ defensive weaknesses, while Celtic also have plenty of talent on the bench should they need to make changes later in the match. With such depth and quality, Celtic will aim to keep their perfect start intact.
