NEWS UPDATE: Gers “keen” to sign £6m forward, report details financial package hopes

Rangers forward line has been misfiring for much of the season with only two players consistently providing Philippe Clement with any sort of reliability.

The manager looked to have solved one problem by signing Oscar Cortes before an untimely injury cut short his impact after becoming one of three January signings to arrive at Ibrox.

A report from Talksport’s chief football correspondent Alex Crooks has revealed that plans are already underway for Rangers to strengthen the attack when the transfer window opens.

Rangers keen to strike Abdallah Sima deal

As well as Cyriel Dessers, the only player in the current Rangers squad to offer any real goal scoring threat in the forward line is Abdallah Sima.

Speaking recently, the Senegal international made it pretty clear at he feels at home at Ibrox and that an extended stay is a real possibility:

“This has been the perfect team for me. As a young player to play these games, getting experience and having my teammates helping me, I’m really happy to be here.

“I didn’t expect to have a season like this but I’m a winner and I want to win. I want to win everything here. That’s why I enjoy this club. I hope to win everything for this club and for the fans because I think they deserve that.

“It’s not just up to me but I’m happy here and my family as well so I’m enjoying being here. The fans are amazing, they are the best for me.”

Philippe Clement will want to keep Sima, but Rangers would have to do a lot of persuading if David Weir is going to do his old club a favour.

Crooks, writing for Talksport, has given some encouragement to Rangers fans hoping for the 16 goal forward to return to the club next season:

“The Glasgow giants would be keen to make Sima’s move permanent if they can agree an acceptable financial package with Brighton.

“The Seagulls paid £6million to sign Sima from Czech side Slavia Prague in the summer of 2021.”

A permanent Sima deal could be possible

Abdallah Sima will have just one year left on his Brighton contract when he returns to the club at the end of his loan spell.

Since 2021, this is the 22-year old’s third short-term deal and the only one that could be considered a success.

It’s up at the higher end of Rangers budget but the £6m that Brighton paid would be a reasonable fee.

For context, it’s in the same ballpark as the £6m deal for Danilo.

Whenever Rangers spend money, it has to be as risk free as possible and Sima has shown exactly what he can do – score goals.

He’s missed three months of the season and still has more than Scott Wright, Rabbi Matondo, Fabio Silva and Ross McCausland put together.

Spending more money doesn’t always better, but in this instance it does.
