NEWS UPDATE: Leeds United could be set to hand rare start to three-goal ace v Middlesbrough

Daniel Farke’s side have had to wait for their chance to get back on track following two seriously damaging home results in April.

After Leicester beat West Brom somehow on Saturday afternoon, it leaves Leeds with pressure on to get back in the groove as three games remain.

There’s not any huge setbacks in the Leeds squad ahead of tonight’s game against Middlesbrough, with Daniel Farke revealing just the one new issue following defeat to Blackburn.

It comes for Connor Roberts, who has suffered a reaction to his muscular issue that initially flared up late in the game for Wales against Poland in March.

Jamie Shackleton remains out, but there are no other short-term issues (via LUFC):

LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross believes that Leeds boss Farke could turn to Mateo Joseph finally after plenty of fan cries for the Spaniard.

Joseph has enjoyed a number of impressive cameos of late, including scoring late on against Watford just seconds after coming on, making it three goals in all competitions this season, and Cross writes that tonight could be the night Farke switches things up front:

“Patrick Bamford has had one effective start in attack since mid-February, while Joel Piroe has not looked like the answer in the line-up or from the bench this calendar year. After one win in five and do-or-die territory virtually upon us, is it time Farke throws caution to the wind?

“Mateo Joseph came of age with 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge against Trevoh Chalobah and Axel Disasi that yielded two goals and he’s rarely looked off it since. Farke has already said he likes to change his attack if it has drawn a blank in the previous game, so it all seems set up for the Spaniard.”

Farke has already given his say on Joseph starting at this stage of a promotion race, underlining the risk of bringing in someone so young under such pressure.

The striker has handled himself incredibly well, and should play a part next term no matter our division, but this game is must-win.

Sometimes, you have to wonder if playing such an inexperienced striker is worth it, even if we all know that the upside could be more than worth it.
