Mark Clattenburg has insisted Nottingham Forest were “victimised” by the officials during the 2-0 win for Everton at Goodison Park on 21 April.
The former Premier League referee ranted that after three penalty decisions went against the away side, labelling the calls a “joke” and stated it was one of the most “grim” games they have experienced.
He finished his rambling by saying no form of apology or retrospective admission that the decisions were incorrect would be enough for Forest as it would be too little, too late.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail [21 April], Clatttenburg ranted: “One of these errors would have been bad enough. Three was a joke, and that is why Nottingham Forest were left feeling victimised after another defeat in which zero big decisions went their way.

“The PGMOL can acknowledge the errors if they want. The Key Match Incident panel can say Forest should have been awarded three penalties if they wish. Howard Webb can offer up an explanation on his Match Officials Mic’d Up television show with Michael Owen if he is so inclined.
“All of that is bound to happen, but none of it will help Nottingham Forest now.”
Clattenburg’s role as an advisor at Forest has led to the rant but also led Gary Neville to demand he resign from his role.
Nottingham Forest, much to the amusement of neutrals and Everton supporters, released a statement via their X account following the game claiming that as Stuart Attwell, the VAR official, is a Luton fan, he should have been removed from his position.
The suggestion that Attwell may have been biased against Forest in an attempt to give Luton a better chance of staying in the Premier League is, quite frankly, ridiculous, and has quickly been dismissed by all necessary parties.
Even looking from an Everton point of view, it is difficult to say none of the three incidents were penalties when all three easily could have been given, and on another day they might have been. It was a poor refereeing performance regardless of your persuasion.
Nevertheless, Sean Dyche and his team won’t be bothered. It was a huge three points in terms of their Premier League survival and has them well on their way to staying up while condemning their rivals to a difficult end to the season.
