A midfielder who ‘agreed’ to join West Brom is now set to leave Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien is reportedly the subject of serious transfer interest from a host of Premier League and Championship clubs.
The 25-year-old is expected to move on from the City Ground in the coming weeks as Forest look to trim down on numbers. O’Brien has played just 15 times for Forest in all competitions since signing from Huddersfield Town for £8 million.
West Bromwich Albion once agreed to sign O’Brien on loan in January 2023 but the deal fell through at the eleventh hour. The midfielder instead joined DC United in March of that year, playing 19 times during a brief spell in the United States.
A new development involving O’Brien’s near future is that, according to Nottinghamshire Live, the following teams are interested in signing him this summer: Norwich City, Sheffield United, Luton Town, Preston North End, and Ipswich Town. It is reported that Forest is receptive to proposals, particularly those including a long-term sale. Ipswich, who were just promoted to the Premier League, would be the most alluring transfer away, but no offers have been made.
O’Brien, meanwhile, would fit in well with Sheffield United, since the Blades are hoping to bring in Oliver Norwood as they make a comeback to the Championship. Another team demoted from the top division, Luton, might present an alternative for O’Brien.
