Offers for a player wanted by Ipswich, Portsmouth, and Mansfield Town are rejected by non-league clubs

Rob Esteva, director of non-league side Altrincham have warned potential suitors that they will not sell Chris Conn-Clarke below his valuation this transfer window as interest hots up.

Football Transfers and journalist Alan Nixon report that the 22-year-old has drawn attention from League One teams Peterborough United, Mansfield Town, and Wigan Athletic as well as Premier League teams Ipswich Town and Championship Portsmouth.

The team has already declined offers, therefore they have issued a warning that they won’t be taken advantage of. “A few proposals have already been made to us, but they have been rejected. In actuality, teams that fall short of our valuation and the offers we have received thus far are not close enough to allow us to let him leave. Speaking to Radio Alty, Esteva stated (quotes extracted from the Messenger) “We’re not requesting outrageous sums of money; rather, we’re requesting a reasonable evaluation of his value based on the comparison of other players and the recognition that Chris has outperformed so many of them.”

What does this mean for the interested clubs?

Altrincham know the asset that they’ve got and they know they are attracting interest from several clubs, it is their right if they are willing to sell to try and get the best possible price. A sale of this size for a non-league club can transform a season, giving additional transfer funds or even in some cases keeping the lights on! To let him go for cheap would be doing a disservice to the club, especially when many of the club that that are interested are far more cash rich than they are.

I suspect he will be sold, more than likely a couple of weeks into the window to give Altrincham enough time to benefit, whilst also allowing them time to hold out for a bit more cash.

Conn-Clarke is rightly attracting interest from three different leagues, after scoring 22 goals in all competitions pushing his side to the brink of EFL football, before falling to Andy Woodman’s Bromley. The player will feel he has proved he has what it takes to compete at a higher level and will be pushing to get the move finalised so he can get to grips with his new side.
