Oliver Moore Has Had A Very Good Summer. After An Excellent Freshman Year Initially

Oliver Moore, a forward from Minnesota and prospect for the Blackhawks, had a rough start. Though Moore probably would have like his Golden Gophers to advance farther in the NCAA tournament, it ended quite nicely.

One thing is certain, though, as his skill improved all the way up to his final game of the season despite a season filled with a variety of performances between his college game and the World Juniors. Regarding his season, Moore remarked, “I think a lot of ups and downs.” Adversity is excellent; I’ve learned a lot about handling it this year. However, I feel like I had to develop a lot of confidence, especially after winning World Juniors, which is an incredible experience as well. It was definitely a slow start offensively with the adjustments that were being made.

Right now, I think I’m enjoying my summer to the fullest. It’s nice not to be running around as much now that summer has lasted a little longer. It was a good season. A strong finale is preferable to a weak one. He was a member of the United States World Junior team that won Gold, and he was fantastic for Minnesota in the closing stages of the game. His contribution to the US team’s gold medal finish undoubtedly maintains the momentum. The play by Moore right after the World Juniors:

21 points, including seven goals in a two-month period, accounting for nine for the season. Did he take any alternative steps to get there? Moore sees it all starting and ending with his speed. “I’ve made a lot of changes to my previous off-ice routine. Working hard to increase power and speed—both physically and mentally more balanced these days. It’s important to have the largest motor possible when playing hockey. Putting a lot of effort into conditioning and similar tasks. Before, I spent a lot of time strengthening my foundation and lifting a lot of weight; today, I spend more time doing sprint exercises.

Plyometrics is something I work out at the University of Minnesota. Cal Dietz is a fairly well-known expert in this area, and I pick up a lot of knowledge from him.

Oliver Moore Continues to Work Toward His Goal of Making the Blackhawks

Moore will now need consistent momentum throughout the year to get that entry-level deal when he concludes his sophomore season.

The competition in Chicago is real, though. Oliver Moore’s speed will be his greatest asset but seeing an uptick in numbers, especially goal scoring, is where that could separate him from the pack.  Some of those on and off-ice adjustments must continue into the season. Moore is already having a great summer. A great fall and winter could make the spring even greater–one that maybe has an entry-level deal ready at the end.
