Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson is confident his team can excel on multiple fronts this season.
After a successful campaign last year, which saw Posh clinch the EFL Trophy at Wembley and narrowly miss out on promotion in the League One play-offs against Oxford United, Ferguson is optimistic despite a slow start to the current league season.
Peterborough faces a challenging home fixture against Lincoln City this Saturday (3pm) but has strengthened their position in the Trophy, with a win over Gillingham last week putting them close to advancing to the knockout stages.
Darren Ferguson remains optimistic about Peterborough United’s ability to compete successfully on two fronts this season. Reflecting on last year’s achievements, Ferguson notes that the team should have secured promotion alongside their EFL Trophy win.
Despite a mixed start to the current campaign—losing both home games but winning three away fixtures, including at Gillingham—Ferguson emphasizes the need to improve their home performances, particularly against teams that play defensively.
He acknowledges Lincoln City’s strong form and their effective defensive setup, noting the challenge they present. Ferguson stresses the importance of starting aggressively and finding a way to break down well-organized defenses.
Regarding team selection for Saturday’s game, Ferguson is considering including deadline day signing Bradley Ihionvien, who made a strong debut with a goal against Gillingham. The focus will be on starting the game well and maintaining pressure throughout, even if they fall behind.
