The absence of perhaps Philippe Clement’s best front three for the trip to Pittodrie suggests that Rangers are doomed due to injury issues with important players, a truth that both fans and commentators overlook.
The manager benched Jefte, which did not sit well with supporters, and made a number of other alterations to his starting lineup.
There was some encouraging news for Rangers regarding Vaclav Cerny’s prognosis, despite the fact that the squad is already at breaking point.
Rangers supporters are pleased to learn of Vaclav Cerny’s injury.
Cerny’s absence from the Aberdeen match was a major setback since the Czech international, who has five goals and one assist in four games, has been playing well and is now among the first names on the team sheet.
Before the match against the Dons, Clement said the 26-year-old did everything he could to stay healthy, but he just ignored the medical staff’s advice:
When questioned about Cerny’s absence on RTV, Clement responded, “Yeah, he has an injury, just a small injury.”
“He couldn’t play today, according to the medical team, who did everything they could to get him healthy, but there wasn’t much time left after the game to prepare for this match.
“With five goals and a lot of effort for the team, he has been very important over the last four games.”
How likely is it that Cerny will make a permanent move?
Since signing on loan from Wolfsburg in the summer, Cerny has made 15 appearances and played 987 minutes, contributing nine goals.
Following an outstanding start, he saw a decline in play when a blatant miss against Lyon led to taunts from some Rangers fans.
Cerny has been Rangers’ greatest player ever since, especially after an emotional interview. He has displayed the poise from out wide that has been lacking in recent seasons, especially on the right side of the attack.
Cerny wouldn’t be cheap, having cost Wolsburg almost £6 million when he joined from Twente in 2023, but Rangers must acquire proven talent if they hope to advance.
