Phoenix Mercury’s “Game Is in Good Hands” post goes viral with Clark and Taurasi.

The Phoenix Mercury are arguably the only WNBA team with as much league history as any current squad. Thus, there is some credence to their claim that the game is in capable hands. With a post that went viral the day after future Hall of Famer Diana Taurasi and her Mercury were defeated by rookie sensation Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever, the team’s official X account paid tribute to the league’s elite.

from one age group to the following. With a picture of Taurasi and Clark standing next to one another and grinning, the post says, “Our game is in good hands.”

17,071 people attended the Indiana vs. Phoenix game on Sunday, June 30. With 17,747 fans in attendance for the Mercury’s game against the Sparks during the league’s first season, that number is the second-highest in franchise history. Despite Clark’s illness, he nearly triple-doubled to help the Fever win the game, 88–82. Taurasi scored 19 points to the rookie’s 15 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds.

Diana Taurasi and Caitlin Clark Share a Mutual Respect

Despite their rivalry on the floor, Taurasi and Clark get along well off it. The two had a hug and some smiles before the game. Clark had talked to the media the previous day about the opportunity to take on Taurasi, who she had always looked up to.

She told reporters, “It’s amazing to think she’s been in this league for 20 years.” That is really awesome. It’s an accomplishment that very few people will ever do in their careers, but given her track record of success, I doubt many others will be able to match her in this regard.

After the game, Taurasi, who is well-known for alerting rookies like Clark and her teammates about the impending arrival of “reality,” showed Clark even more appreciation. Taurasi remarked, “The one thing that I really love about her is that she’s put in the work.” “Despite all of the pressure and obstacles that have been thrown at her during her brief WNBA tenure, she has persevered and improved with every game. Thus, she has a very promising future.

That is a little more detailed than Taurasi gave when a reporter questioned her opinion on playing Clark the day before the game. It will be enjoyable, she responded at the time.

Taurasi vs. Clark Could Return to Phoenix Soon

This season, the Fever will not visit Phoenix again; however, the Mercury will visit Indiana twice, with a July 12 game. That does not exclude Clark and Taurasi from facing off in the desert once more. It’s actually almost a lock.

Later this month, in Phoenix, the USA Olympic Team will play the WNBA All-Stars in the WNBA All-Star Game. Clark was the top vote-getter among players who were not already on Team USA when the league released a vote update on June 21, even though the All-Star roster has not yet been revealed. 50% of the vote is cast by fans, and Clark’s results are strong enough to encourage voting from the media and players as well.

Aliyah Boston, Clark’s teammate, received the second-highest number of votes among non-olympic athletes. On July 20, the All-Star Game will kick off at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
