John Mousinho has admitted that he is still working to determine his strongest starting XI for Portsmouth, as the club returns to Championship action against West Brom after the international break. With several summer signings joining late in the transfer window and injuries affecting the squad, Mousinho acknowledges that it will take time for his ideal lineup to emerge.

He explained that although some players have only just begun integrating into the squad, the team is steadily improving as everyone gets accustomed to his tactical approach. Mousinho emphasized that while seven or eight regulars will likely feature consistently, there will be room for rotation and competition based on training performances.

Reflecting on last season, Mousinho pointed out how unexpected players, like Conor Shaughnessy, stepped up, while others with high expectations, such as Gavin Whyte and Anthony Scully, struggled. He stressed that players need to seize every opportunity to impress, whether in training or matches, as the squad continues to evolve.
